• Case histories

Using a number of practical examples in the form of case histories, you can see below what we mean by conceiving, developing, and packaging food concepts for retailers. Often, it is a complete food concept, created from start to finish, recognisable from the icon above with the small bulb inside. Alternatively, it could be a custom-made packaging assignment, recognisable from the above icon in the centre. Occasionally, it involves supplying products that are more or less ready to go when they come to us; this is recognisable from the EDI icon, top right.

  • Range

We have conceived, developed, and packaged a great many fresh food concepts. Take a look at our extensive range below. It varies from fresh finger food, sauces, superfoods, sea vegetables, and other flavours for fish, salad, or meat.
  • Conceiving & developing

Using a number of practical examples in the form of case histories, you can see what we mean by conceiving and developing food concepts for retailers. Our food concept ‘products’ are produced in bulk elsewhere for strategic reasons on the basis of the specifications we have developed. This allows us to create independence and flexibility. It enables us to package a wide and varied range of refrigerated products at our modern BRC-certified packaging lines. Below are a number of examples of a food concept from beginning to end.
  • Packaging of food products

We have various packaging lines in our BRC-certified and refrigerated production area, and we offer a wide range of packaging solutions for the food sector. This includes different types of cups, trays, sachets, and bags, which we can print on, band, or label. Because a flexible production process gives added value for our customers, our machines can quickly be converted for new types of packaging. The products in the packages can also be vacuum-packed and then gas-flushed and sealed using a mix of CO2 and nitrogen. This extends the life of the product in a natural way. In other words, options galore! Using a number of practical examples in the form of case histories, you can see below a number of packaging examples.
  • Logistics of food

Using a practical example in the form of a case history, you can see what sort of thing we mean by logistic services involving food concepts for retailers. It ranges from maintaining files for GS1DAS and TraceOne to ensuring that the product is delivered to the correct distribution centre in the correct packaging with the help of EDI.
  • Case history: meat enhancers

Our meat enhancers were conceived on the basis of the idea that consumers want to be helped. Not just when preparing meat: “you don’t want to ruin an expensive piece of meat by not preparing it properly”. People also appreciate help when looking for variety in their meals: “what shall I eat now?”, and “what would go nicely with this?” The meat enhancer concept provide answers to these questions.

We help consumers by linking meat enhancers to the type of meat that they go well with, and by making things easy for them by presenting fresh products alongside the appropriate meat on refrigerated shelves, thereby helping to inspire consumers while they are shopping. The detailed preparation instructions on the packaging make sure that the cooking process cannot fail. Our aim with the meat enhancers is to make ordinary meals extraordinary, especially with the most delicious products that we make together with our partners. But without unnecessary additives, obviously.

The range of flavourings for meat is obtainable at various supermarkets and consists of:

    • Warm, fresh sauces: mustard-cream sauce with grain mustard, mushroom-cream sauce with a touch of port wine, pepper-cream sauce with a touch of cognac, béarnaise sauce with pure clarified butter and a game-cream sauce with Liege syrup
    • Rubs: roast, spicy oriental
    • Marinades: lemon-garlic

Packed in portions for 1 to 2 persons, so no more half-open packages that sit around for weeks in the fridge; guaranteed to be fresh. From idea to introduction, developed in just 9 months. And that is something we are proud of!

    Case history: fish enhancers

All the same fish products on display – time for a change, we thought. With different products, as well as fish. Products that can change meals, make them tastier, and sometimes even make them healthier as well. That was the starting point for launching a range of fish enhancers onto the market.

We are now supplying an extensive range of flavourings for fish at various retailers in the fish sector, both in and outside the Netherlands. Such as sea vegetables:

    – Seaweed salad, also known as wakame salad, following a Japanese recipe
    – Glasswort
    – Edamame (green soya beans)
    – Sea lavender (Dutch seasonal product)

    But also various sauces:

    – Sauce ravigote; delicious with fried fish
    – Cocktail sauce; delicious with prawns
    – Mustard-dill sauce; delicious with smoked salmon

And also salmon eggs and blinis We package most products ourselves in our BRC refrigerated production area, and in collaboration with the customer we also provide the design and the printing of the private label packaging.

    Case history: fresh soups

There is more focus on healthy eating and living these days. That means natural food with plenty of vegetables and no artificial additives. Fresh ready-made soups packed with vegetables are the result. And because the soups are hot filled, their shelf life is at least 30 days from production, whilst being indistinguishable from fresh soup. Organic also available! For example:

    – Vegetarian carrot-sweet potato soup, sweet-savoury with ginger
    – Slightly sweet, spicy vegetarian pumpkin soup with cayenne pepper
    – Vegetarian mushroom soup, creamy with thyme
    – Fruity, spicy, vegan pepper-tomato soup, with a touch of chili

    Case history: salad enhancers

This concept has been up and running for some time now, and is still a success. Responding to the increasing number of single-person households and those with dual incomes. That means smaller portions (no waste), always fresh, and being able to make salad yourself in a matter of moments. A pick & mix of flavours for salads. Varying from different types of nuts, dressings, cheeses, pieces of bacon, mixed pickle, etc. The possibilities are endless.
We supply the pick & mix salad enhancers under various private labels in small transparent cups, for that optimum experience of freshness.

    Case history: superfoods

Before superfoods became a real trend in the Netherlands, we introduced a range of superfoods onto the market with our customer, as part of the breakfast meal. Examples include goji berries, cocoa nibs, chia seeds, etc., for mixing with yoghurt and veggie and fruit shakes.
The packaging is resealable, so it is no longer necessary to transfer it into glass jars. The design is in keeping with the fresh and healthy lifestyle of the target group.
The entire concept was developed in about 5 months (from idea to instore) and has since been taken abroad, where it is proving a great success.
